2nd May 2025

Good afternoon,

The staff began their weekend with a fantastic tour of West Court Retreat with a delicious afternoon tea.  It was perfect staff wellbeing and we are incredibly grateful.  We also had the opportunity to see how our children may be able to benefit from it's wonderful history, the building development and outdoor space through school visits. As a school we are blessed with this connection.

We began the week with a group of our Chaffinch children presenting their learning from the David Wilson Homes project which they carried out in March.  They all spoke proudly and it was clear that the learning will inspire them to consider energy efficiency.  I would like to thank Phil from the David Wilson team; the children were delighted to have him in school for the assembly.

On Tuesday, we were pleased to welcome Reverend Gemma back to school for our church assembly.  Many of our older pupils remember Gemma from her previous time at St James'.

Wednesday was an incredibly busy day for staff as we welcomed our School Improvement Officer to school to deep dive into our Phonics teaching and learning and our Geography curriculum.  This visit was helpful, informative and a celebration of what we do and what we achieve.  Thank you to all the staff.

We were pleased to share information on our Maths curriclum with parents this week and powerpoints/information will be added to each class page for those who could not attend.  If you need any further support, we are keen to help you to help your child and understand the methodology and resources used.

Over the weekend we will continue to take care of our tadpoles.  The children are learning so much from watching them grow.  On Monday, Mrs Metcalfe brought the chicks in and it was such a treat to observe how they have changed.  We are really enjoying our outdoor learning which will continue if the weather changes, but we would love the sunshine to stay!  Today's ice lolly sale was a perfect end to the week. Thank you FOFSA.

Please note the following dates for next week along with some save the dates!

Wednesday 7th May and 14th May - Children can be signed up to stay at school until 4pm to carryout reading, spelling etc. homework along with some games with the support of some students from Wellington College.  This is part of new and growing partnership and we hope you are pleased and support it.  I have emailed the sign up sheet link for both dates.

Friday 9th May - Multisports club for Rosefinch parents and children after school.  The sign up sheet will be emailed on Tuesday.

                         - FOFSA will hold a Second hand uniform sale.

Please also save the date 12th July 3pm-5pm FOFSA Bingo for families.

I feel proud of both our curriculum and our wider curriculum offer. Our curriculum, enrichment, clubs and our nurture altogether make school exciting and busy. I look forward to next week but in the meantime wish you all a lovely, long weekend.

With kind regards

Jacquie Vanstone
