If you have any questions or concerns please speak to your child’s class teacher first of all.

My work day at Finchampstead is Tuesday and I will always aim to respond to emails or phone calls as soon as possible.

My name is Helen Evans and I am the SENDCo, (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator). It is my role to co-ordinate the SEND provision so that all children are enabled to achieve their full potential personally, socially and academically. As our school vision states, “This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

Here at Finchampstead, all staff are committed to meeting each child’s individual needs and we aim to do this by working in partnership altogether – pupils, parents and staff. When appropriate, we will seek the help and support of outside agencies too. Parents are kept informed of their child’s progress at regular parent meetings throughout the year and we are always happy to meet with you at a mutually convenient time if you have any concerns or worries so that we can work together to best support your child.

At Finchampstead, all children are taught using a quality first teaching approach (QFT). This is a universal fully inclusive approach which means that our teachers use a wide range of teaching strategies to enable all children to access the curriculum, learning in ways that work best for them. Teachers are skilled at differentiating teaching and learning activities in this way.

If your child requires some additional support with their learning we will put an individual plan in place to work on some targets specific to your child. We call this a send support plan (SSP) and this will be shared with you and your child. These individual targets will be reviewed each term and new targets set as appropriate. You will be kept informed and involved throughout.

Sometimes, a child’s needs may be more complex and require further support beyond this approach. When appropriate, we can work together to apply to Wokingham for an education health care plan (EHCP). This is a process which we can work on in partnership.
