Our School Vision

"This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it." Psalm 118

Our Curriculum Vision for Music - Our Intent

Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity.

At Finchampstead C of E Primary School we aspire for our Music education to be high quality, inspiring and accessible for every child. In developing their skills as musicians and sense of achievement we aim to see our children grow in confidence, and develop a lifelong love of Music.

We use the award-winning scheme “Charanga” as the structure for our music curriculum, with further enrichment through termly class topics and a range of performance opportunities.

Throughout their musical learning journey, the children will listen to music across a wide range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions. Including the works of great composers and traditions. Our children are also encouraged to develop critical thinking, expressing opinions and preferences on the range of music experiences.

Composing, developing improvisation skills and confidence to perform are embedded in our music curriculum with music technology being used when appropriate.

Singing in unison, 2 and 4 parts develops through the school, and the children learn to use their voices to create a range of effects for compositions and performances.

Delivery of our Music Curriculum

Weekly Music sessions are lively and interactive, with many opportunities to play a range of untuned and tuned percussion throughout the school, develop their understanding of musical notation and use of musical terminology.  Whole class Recorder and ukulele sessions are introduced and learnt as part of the KS2 curriculum and we enjoy receiving instrumental tuition from Berkshire Maestros In2Music for Schools Programme.

As further enrichment of our Music education, we provide our children with many opportunities to perform with our all-inclusive school choir performing in the local community and joining our area schools in performances at WASMA and the Mayors Christmas Carol Service.

Our aspiration is that our children develop a lifelong love of Music.
