Parent Mail

27th June 2025

Good afternoon,

I am aware I have been in touch regarding staffing and other things so this will be a shorter email to celebrate the wonderful week we have had.

The transition morning we had was a great success and the children were all excited about their next steps in September.  We will have another transition session and we will support any children if we feel they need some extra chats with new staff.  As a small school, we are fortunate that everyone knows everyone which is a big help for transition.  The Year 5s this week were visited by some Bohunt (previously Finch) students and a member of staff.  Our Year 5 children were commended for their attitude and questioning.  Our Year 6 children who are going to Wokingham schools also have transition days and came back keen to share.

On Thursday our Chaffinch children represented the school brilliantly at West Court Retreat.  It felt like such a privilege for them to experience such hands-on history, geography and more and all within our locality.  My thanks go to Mr Barley and his staff along with our staff - a great community effort with our pupils learning and experiencing so much as a result.

Today Goldfinch had a talk from author Penny Arlon who has previously been a parent and governor at our school.  Their learning was all around fair trade and they had a great day making chocolate and boxes which they looked proud to take home.

We have finished the week in non-uniform to support the Finchampstead Village Fete.  Please support our community tomorrow between 1pm and 4pm on the field (FOFSA will also have a stool).   Mrs Fox was blown away by the donations and asked me to pass on her thanks.

It has been warmer again today but not warm enough to slow our Dance club children down.  I was delighted to watch their performance which they can show the school next week.  I am working with Bohunt to extend this opportunity into the Autumn term which is lovely as club and special as a connection to a local secondary school.

Today, we have received weather advice regarding the heat up until Tuesday evening.  I have attached this advice to the email sent out with the link for this news update.  Please be assured we will adapt as we need to in order to keep the children and staff as cool as possible - this may impact PE.  We are fortunate to have such a shady playground.  Please ensure your child has a water bottle, hat and suntan lotion applied.  I am relieved to see that the temperature by Friday is far lower and we hope to go ahead with Sports day as planned.  We do require help for Sports day so please email me if you are willing to give out stickers, hold the finish line etc.  We also need gazebos so if you are able to provide one, please email me.

I wish you a lovely weekend and as always thank you for your support.

With kind regards

Jacquie Vanstone
