Good afternoon,

This final week before half term has flown by.  I have spent more time in classrooms this week which has been such a pleasure.  As we reach half term I would like to thank the staff for all they do.  I have enjoyed seeing Art in Bullfinch, Chaffinch and Goldfinch which has been so creative.  It has been lovely to see the children working so carefully with control and thought.  Rosefinch have shared some super writing.  It is an exciting time when the learning comes together and the sentence writing begins, well done Reception!  I find my week so busy and I loved a moment of calm which I couldn't resist joining.  Bullfinch class in a low lit classroom with music playing and children learning massage; thank you Mrs Metcalfe, I didn't want to leave.

The final half term of the academic year is always busy especially for our Year 6.  Next week I will email parents with key dates for the second half of the term and whilst additional dates may be added over the coming months, it will give you a guide.  There will be many opportunities for parents to be in school and we look forward to that.  The Chaffinch reading session this week was a great success and we really value your time.

I wanted to share some information now regarding Sports day on 4th July.  Usually we begin at 1.15pm over on the field.  This year, we are going to begin at 11am with the carousel of field events such as bean throws, javelin etc.  At  about 12pm we will return to school and if possible, we hope to invite parents to join us at lunchtime.  We will then meet together back on the field for the track races at 1.15pm.  We will share exact details nearer the time but I wanted you to have this information for your diaries.

Today, we have checked the team colours with the chidren.  Rosefinch, we have emailed them out to you.  If you are unsure of your child's colour, please ask.  We would like the children to come into school from after half term, on their PE days, in their plain coloured t-shirt (red, blue, yellow or green).  This will enable us to organise the children easily in PE lessons ahead of Sports day.  If this causes a concern for you, please be in touch and we will try our best to help.

Clubs after half term - Please see the website page on wider provision for more information.

On the Tuesday after half term, I will send out a letter for Art and DT club on a Monday. Places will be allocated in the order letters are returned to the office and we will inform parents if they have a space for the half term.  We will be charging a small amount to cover costs.

I have attached a flyer for the Gymnastics club being offered for the Summer term and you can sign up using the information on the flyer.

Finally, I am delighted to say that we have students and a teacher coming from Bohunt Secondary School to lead two dance/drama sessions for Key Stage 2.  These will run on Friday 20th June and Friday 27th June.  A letter will be sent home for pupils to sign up for these sessions.  We are so lucky to offer this and I hope the children enjoy it.

I would like to wish you all a very happy half term and thank you, as always, for your support.  Please look out for an email next week with keys dates for you to refer to as the term progresses.  If you have any questions, we are keen to work closely with you to ensure you feel fully informed.

Have a lovely week and thank you again to our wonderful staff.

With kind regards

Jacquie Vanstone
