16th May 2025
Good afternoon,
I want to begin this news update by congratulating our Year 6. They have approached their SATs in a calm, happy and mature manner. As a school, I feel proud of our approach to the SATs and a great introduction to formal testing. We value the SATs and prepare the children well but the calm, caring, confidence from our staff enables the children to show their best and keep smiling. They enjoyed a well deserved ice cream yesterday!
Both our Year 5 and our Year 6 children have enjoyed afternoons of Design and Technology this week. They are enjoying the creativity of their topic and I enjoyed watching them confidently and carefully sawing. Thank you to Mrs Surtees and Mrs Metcalfe for the much needed extra pairs of hands and eyes yesterday.
There was great excitement on Thursday when Spiderman appeared on our playground. Rosefinch explained to him that he was in Finchampstead Primary School and the children made great recommendations of where to visit whilst over from New York. Rosefinch's learning is based on the topic of Superheros which was very much brought to life and this has already inspired lots of creativity and purposeful writing.
I enjoyed accompanying a group of secret Chaffinch geographers on Tuesday afternoon for a walk. With a map, a compass and a secret destination, we had a great time exploring our locality. I really enjoyed being part of this Geography lesson.
Bullfinch had the opportunity to do some Maypole dancing this week. The children enjoyed the learning and were able to appreciate the importance of being a team and being aware of each other whilst still focusing on their own movements. This sets Bullfinch up perfectly for their Multisports club with parents today. Thank you so much for the support for the session, it is great to see.
I wanted to thank the children and parents who have given feedback on the homework club with Wellington College students. The sessions have been a really positive experience for all. I hope this is something we can continue to provide when possible.
I wanted to remind parents to be considerate of our neighbours when parking. We work hard to build positive relationships with our neighbours and I ask that driveways are not blocked at all when you park along the road. There is plenty of parking at the memorial car park and at The Greyhound pub so I urge you to use those spaces when possible.
Next week, I will be emailing the parents who are supporting us with our 12th June Careers fair to provide some more information. It is not too late to join us! We really want to open the children's eyes to the opportunities available and build excitement and high aspiration. Please email me if you haven't already and if you are able to join us.
This news update illustrates how wonderfully full our curriculum is as well as how valued the wider opportunities on offer are. We have experienced many moments of awe and wonder and that is all just in one week! I encourage you to explore our website to see more information about our curriculum and the wider opportunities.
I wish you all a lovely weekend in the sunshine.
With kind regards
Jacquie Vanstone
