Parent Mail

5th October 2018

Dear Parents,

I would like to begin by thanking so many of you for joining us at our Poet tea last Friday.  It was wonderful to see the children perform so confidently and they enjoyed having such a large audience.  The event was organised by School Council and Mrs Dodds and it raised a fantastic £294.15 for Macmillan Cancer Care; it was lovely to see our article in the Wokingham Paper this week.

Some of you may have noticed some adverts on the Wokingham website.  I am pleased to inform you that following interview, Mrs Martinez will be working in school supporting a child on a 1:1 basis.  We are delighted and look forward to welcoming her as a member of staff.  We are still looking for a Lunchtime Controller and if you or someone you know may be interested please contact me.

It has been great to see so many of you this week at our Learning Reviews; if you have not attended please make sure you arrange to see the Class teacher as soon as possible. This week we also had a prospective parent afternoon and as always the Year 6 children made us feel very proud.  They carried out tours with such pride and confidence; they are true ambassadors for our school.  During the same day Key Stage 2 children had the opportunity to learn from the St James' Church team in their Labyrinth.  The children learnt a great deal about Remembrance and they all enjoyed the experience; I have attached some photos to share with you.

I have spoken with some of you this week about our daily run.  Recently we have used a smaller, shorter route for the run and some of the children are missing the opportunites the longer run provides.  I believe the longer run gives the children greater challenge and a sense of freedom for thought and reflection (supervision is strong!).  The shorter run feels more manageable for some and the children challenge themselves with their pace.  We will make sure we mix up the routes the children take so that they are enjoying and feeling the greatest benefit possible from the run.  It is such a pleasure to see them all running with such energy and enthusiasm and I grateful for your feedback.

On Thursday evening our FOFSA committee met; thank you Kelly Price for taking on the role of Chair.  It was exciting to begin the plans for the Christmas Fair and lovely to work with such a committed team.

Next week is PGL week for Year 6; I wish them a wonderful time and I am looking forward to visiting on Wednesday evening.  We will keep parents updated with how they are throughout the week.

We also have a Year 5 Luckley Football Tournament on Wednesday which we won a few years ago!  Good luck to the boys taking part.

Wishing you a great weekend after what has been an incredibly busy week!
