23rd January 2026

Good evening,

After quite a wet week, I am hoping for a sunnier weekend for us all.  I have spent a lot of my week with the children, which has been a pleasure.

It is clear to see how learning behaviours are developing. I have seen some great writing in Bullfinch and Goldfinch.  Chaffinch enjoyed a wonderful session with a representative from Water Aid (their chosen charity) and Rosefinch are excited by their creative learning.  In addition to this, individual children from each class have shared learning with me, ranging from phonics, RE and Maths.  It is great to see them showing motivation to improve and the required resilience to do so.

Over the past few weeks, we have reinforced our expectations of the children regarding behaviour.  I am pleased to see the impact this is having.  Our assembly focus on friendship also provides many opportunities for the children to reflect on how they are a good friend and how their friends are towards them.

Next week, we have different events taking place, including some gymnastics at Pinewood Gym and a music trip for Chaffinch and Goldfinch to Guildford.   I want to thank the staff, especially Ms Bardsley, for managing all the paperwork that make such trips possible.

Unfortunately, this week there have been several accidents in the area as well as some traffic lights popping up unexpectedly.  We understand the impact this may have on your arrival at school. We will always try to share any updates ahead of school drop off if we can, and we are sympathetic to these situations.  Whilst these circumstances are unavoidable, we do have more pupils recently, with a higher percentage of lates recorded.  The start of the day is important for children to settle into their day and begin their learning and routines. We thank you for your support with this.

I wish you a lovely weekend and, as I say, hopefully a bit of sunshine.

With kind regards
