15th May 2026

Good afternoon,

I begin my news update with a well done to our Year 6 for their hard work this week.  They have had a positive attitude towards their SATs.  I would like to thank the staff who make it feel appropriately important with the normal smiles and reassurance.   The children enjoyed their daily breakfast treat along with the yoga session.  Their hard work continues with assessments ongoing for Writing and Science as they begin to think more about their transitions to secondary school.

Swimming for Chaffinch this week saw many children successfully challenge themselves in the water.  It is such a privilege for staff to see the development week by week.  We are so proud of the level of resilience and determination being shown and the impact this is already having just a few weeks in.

Rosefinch were excited to welcome families into school for their learning event this afternoon.  It is such a valuable opportunity for them to take the brave step of speaking in front of an audience.  Their songs were brilliant. Well done Mrs Paterson and Miss Remmington for creating memories to keep and experiences to develop from.

We currently have all our Reception places allocated for September (with one space yet to be accepted). It has been a pleasure to lead tours this week.  We only have spaces in Year 3 and Year 5, and we welcome tours throughout the year.

This week we had a governor's meeting on Tuesday and a FOFSA meeting on Thursday.  We are so fortunate to have so many dedicated people working hard to continually improve and develop our school.  Whilst governors focused much of the discussion on our School Development Plan, the FOFSA committee were busy planning our wonderful Summer fair to raise the money we need to deliver many aspects of the plan.  Thank you so much to FOFSA and I hope lots of you will support them in the organisation and on the day itself, on Saturday 27th June.

I would like to finish with a couple of reminders.  We are seeing some children coming into school in patterned or Nike socks.  Plain white or grey socks should be worn.  I have also been informed of a few occasions when driveways have been partially blocked by parked cars. This includes parking spaces to the side and rear of school.  We work hard to hold positive relationships with our neighbours and we need your support and consideration.

I wish you all a lovely weekend and look forward to many exciting learning opportunities next week in the run-up to half-term.

With kind regards

Jacquie Vanstone
