Finchampstead C of E (Aided) Primary School

An enriching education in a welcoming Christian environment

Early Years

Children join Finchampstead Primary School at the start of the academic year in which they will be five years old.  Before starting school the children have two visits when they will meet their teachers and the children in their class. They will also be assigned a buddy from Year 6 who will look after them in and around the school and help them to settle in.

Our Early Years curriculum complies with the “Early Learning Goals” as defined by the DfE and is based around seven areas of learning:

  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding of the World
  • Expressive arts and design

Children work towards the Early Learning Goals in the reception class and there is a strong emphasis on learning through play and child initiated activities.

Outdoor Learning

Being outdoors offers opportunities for learning in different ways and our outdoor area is equipped for the reception children where they can explore, use their senses and be physically active whatever the weather.
